Centrifuge

A Centrifuge is used to rotate a substance around a fixed axis so that centrifugal force will separate a fluid from a fluid or from a solid substance. There are many different types of centrifuges for different purposes.  

• Simple centrifuges – These are used in biochemistry and biology for separating bio compounds. They are separated on the basis of their molecular weight. They are rotating at slow speeds.
• Standalone centrifuges – These are used to dry clothes. A water outlet is given with them.
• Gas centrifuges – These are used to separate light isotope of uranium from heavy isotope of it and then enrich uranium. Heavy isotope of uranium is placed in hexafluoride gas and it tends to concentrate at the walls of the centrifuge as it spins.
• Other centrifuges – These are used to test the reactions of pilots against acceleration, wastewater treatment to dry sludge, in attraction mission, to match soil stress, and nuclear weapon programs.
